Twitter’s Russian users sue watchdog for slowing service down

MOSCOW, Jun 8 (PRIME) – The Russian Twitter users have filed a lawsuit against the communications service for slowing down the micro-blogging platform because of non-deletion of the content the country bans, lawyer Stanislav Seleznyov, a senior partner of project Network Freedoms, told PRIME late on Monday.

“The Tagansky District Court of Moscow received a class action suit against the communications service related to Twitter’s slowdown,” said Seleznyov, who represents the project of human rights organization Agora.

The lawsuit was filed by several politicians and Yevgeny Feldman, a photo editor of media Meduza, which has a foreign agent status in Russia.

The plaintiffs ask the court to oblige the communications service to stop applying restrictions on the platform and exclude it from the list of threats to the sustainable Internet.

The watchdog slowed Twitter down in March on 100% of mobile devices and 50% of desktops for reluctance to delete banned information, but lifted some of the limits in mid-May after the social network had some progress in the deletion.
